Eating for Fun

I’m in Bangkok for business trip this week. Yay! Well, not sure about yay, but I was having fun in my mind before going for this trip.

I have been very lucky to have a job that allows me to travel. Previously, I didn’t take my time to explore the places I visited during business trips. Just stayed in hotel, went to work and occasional business dinners, that’s about it.

I decided this year, I’m going to have mini weekend break every time I travel for work. Of course I pay myself for this break.

On this particular trip, I flew to Bangkok on Saturday. Soon after I arrived in the apartment, I had a 90 min massage then went shopping. I choose to stay at Mayfair Bangkok – Marriott Executive Apartments as it’s oh so close to office and I have more space than normal hotel rooms.

I booked a day tour to Ayutthaya and River Cruise for Sunday, which was really worth it.

At night, I met up with my friend, who I knew when I lived in NZ, and now live in Singapore, where I’m currently residing. He came with his “local” friend. We went for dinner at Nara, very close Erawan Shrine. The food was good, but the companions were even better. I laughed so much, my mouth hurt.

The Friday before I left while at work, I got a surprise message from my univ classmate, Ronnie. He was having a reunion at The University of Auckland with 3 other classmates and told me they were talking about me. Good things, I hope :-). The sms and pics prompted me to ask our classmate, who lives in Bangkok. I straight away contacted Win, and arranged a catch up on Monday.

Win came to pick me up, along with J and his wife Michelle. J was also from univ, but not the same year. We went to Chinatown to meet up with Win’s wife, Chao. She’s a food blogger, known as Bangkok Glutton. That night, she was being interviewed by HK Daily Newspaper, Apple Daily.

We had some noodles on our way to Jay Fai, which is known as the Best and the most expensive Street Food in Bangkok. We even took tuk-tuk ride on our way there. It was my first time on tuk-tuk, which is similar to Bajaj (in Indonesia, I’ve been on it. Same same, but different).

Our food took turn to be photographed before being consumed quickly by everyone. They were all so yummy.

The night turned to be really a fun night. I wouldn’t experienced Bangkok or gone to those eating places if I were not following the prompt on Friday to contact Win. I had so much fun eating, sharing, and meeting old friends. Life is really good.

PS: This is my first blog. I’ve been meaning to write since a long time ago, but I have so many things in my mind and I could not decide what to write. This week I feel it’s time to start.
